Appointment of Teaching Staff for August 2006
The British International School, Shanghai, is looking for a Biology/General Science teacher to A/S lever for an immediate start.
The School & Background
Having established British style schools throughout Europe and Asia, the Nord Anglia
Education Group opened the first British International School in Shanghai, in the Pudong
district of Shanghai, in September 2002. This campus now has over 500 pupils.
We have been working closely with the Chinese educational authorities who have been very
supportive and encouraged us to establish such a school. Subsequently they have been
very supportive to us in our efforts to open a second campus in the Puxi district of the city.
The new school is adjacent to the Forest Manor Residential Park in Puxi, probably the most
prestigious residential development in Shanghai. The new campus has easy access to the
western and northern parts of Shanghai. This exceptionally pleasant residential development
provides a high quality environment, with clean air, security and freedom from the noise and
traffic of central Shanghai. The second campus opened last August and already has over
400 pupils.
Nord Anglia have just announced extensive new developments for the Pudong campus and
total capacity between the two sites will rise to 2500 pupils over the next couple of years,
covering the age range from 3 to 18 year olds. The Early Years and Primary School
Programme follows the British National Curriculum giving a broad education but with a
special emphasis on English, Mathematics and Science.
Both schools prepare pupils for the CU Schools International GCSE. In the Sixth Form pupils
aged 16-18 the programme prepares the oldest pupils for entrance to university entrance
worldwide. This will be through the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme
although, whilst the IB accreditation procedure is being completed at Puxi, pupils will be
prepared through the British Advanced Level programme. There are special programmes for
EAL and Intensive Mandarin. There are extensive ECA Programmes at both school sites
including sport, craft activities and academic enhancement courses.
Educational Environment

completely new custom-built facilities and have all the design features of a modern
British school. For example there are specialist science laboratories and computer
suites as well as specialist Art, Music and Physical Education facilities.

entrance and play areas.
• The Primary classes are taught in the Primary School section of the buildings, with
separate entrance and play areas, providing a wide range of age-appropriate
specialist facilities for the 4-11 age group.
• The Secondary facilities were designed to meet the highest academic standards. The
specialist subject facilities are clustered together to enable the highest quality of
education provision possible at this level. The accommodation includes:
1. Interactive whiteboard technology in most classrooms and in the IT suites

netball courts, field hockey & football pitch
4. Art Studios

We are always looking for teachers with the understanding and sympathy necessary for
teaching in an international school and with the resilience and independence which will allow

most rapidly developing and exciting.
Professional teaching responsibilities include:
1. Planning and preparing appropriate activities, courses and lessons.
