We are urgently looking for Bioinformatics professionals to:
Correctly target core biological issues enabling an efficient choice of the “right” database solutions and platforms for different Bioinformatics projects.
Evaluate the effectiveness of existing database resources and advise on software development.
Develop cohesive intranet and internet strategies for Bioinformatics projects.
Define appropriate standards for experimental design, data gathering and data storage
Develop specific “host-pathogen interaction” mapping software .
Assess data security.
Candidates should have a bio-science background with a proven ability in software development. Experience of genomics and/or Animal Health research would be an advantage.

The function of genomes in biological systems.
The mapping of the human genome sequence now allows a detailed look at individual DNA sequence variations including identifying common DNA variations, including both Single Nucleotide and Deletion Insertion Polymorphisms. A particular area of research involves searching for variations in and around different genes and the correlation with specific genetic diseases.
Responsibilities of the post include primer design, data curation and to oversee specific stages in the pipeline. A good understanding of the processes and potential problems of sequencing is essential. Strong UNIX skills, good knowledge of gap and a familiarity with running custom programs in the UNIX environment are required. Experience of primer design, ACEDB/SQL and/or sequence analysis would be an advantage.
The position would be ideal for someone with a degree in the biological sciences and relevant lab and computer work experience.
